Who’d have thought?…
A chaotic busy household first thing in the morning…
The coffee machine as it groans (and grinds) to life, teenagers objecting to being woken for school, dogs barking frantically as others of their kind passed by our house for morning walks, me trying to coordinate the departure from home of all its occupants, while trying to get myself ready as well… all to a background chorus of morning show hosts “chirping“ about the day’s current affairs, periodically interrupted by jarring advertising jingles.
Finally, everyone tumbles into their assigned seats in cars. The old electric gate seems to open in slow motion before our vehicles spill out onto the street and head in separate directions to school, to work.
I love my work, I love my family, but the chaos never seems to end… even at work, my phone buzzed repeatedly – calls and messages from family as morning plans didn’t go as hoped.
We finished our work session, while I continued “remotely“ organising family members. As the “dust” eventually settled and everyone was where they needed to be, I decided to take a moment…
Who’d have thought, that a simple egg sandwich and a good cup of coffee while gazing out over glassy bay waters, deeply breathing salty humid air, and birds busy “chattering“ in rhythm with the gently lapping water – all under the protective spread of an ancient fig tree – could just be the tonic I needed to soothe my soul?
Breathe in… Breathe out…
Tell me, what is your “tonic”?
